The ability to motivate students in a distance learning environment and the willingness to be flexible and help them become self-disciplined and effective time managers is essential. Our online teachers must have advanced skills in technology so they can focus more on student learning than on the tools of instruction. Patience and an aptitude for technical troubleshooting is a must. Online content teachers must be confident in the efficacy of online learning.


What does a Site-Based Online Content Social Studies Teacher do?

  • Teach students in the Social Studies content area and actively engage students in the curriculum to enhance their educational opportunities.
  • Meet professional obligations including deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner.
  • Maintain student records for the content classes taught to determine who needs immediate intervention.
  • Connect with the principal, assistant principal/dean, students, parents and other staff to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction.
  • Record, document, and analyze daily student activities (e.g., student attendance, progress toward course completion, and student engagement data).
  • Attend weekly success meetings (via virtual means and/or face-to-face) to identify struggling students/families, in order to develop or modify student success plans. Communicate these plans to the principal.
  • Identify student issues and assess solutions using continuous improvement processes.
  • Advocate for student academic and social-emotional success in all coursework and activities.
  • Provide student academic support and interventions as necessary.
  • Set goals to track graduation and postsecondary progress, collaborate with students, families, staff members, and other resources to facilitate student success.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and staff to support data-based decision making to promote student achievement and alignment among curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • The online teacher may be assigned to a physical location from which to work and to provide student support at that location.
  • Communicate with staff in regard to students and families.
  • Provide parents frequent updates of their student’s performance.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Appropriate degree in area of teaching responsibility; Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies or another content-related field.


  • At least two years experience working in a school or organization with at-risk youth, preferred.
  • Experience in taking, teaching, or developing online courses, and/or highly competent in integrating online learning into the traditional curriculum, preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Other:

  • Licensed as a Colorado Secondary Grades 7-12 Educator with Endorsement in the area of teaching responsibility (Social Studies), or current enrollment in an Alternative Licensure Program.
  • Must pass a background check, including a fingerprint check.
  • Must submit a resume, cover letter indicating the content area, and three current letters of reference (within the last 12 months).
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license. Must maintain insurance in accordance with state and organization requirements and maintain an automobile in good working order.

Primary Location:

  • Colorado, specific geographic locations based on student enrollment.
  • The online teacher may be assigned to a physical location from which to work and to provide student support at that location.

Base Salary Range:

Full time:

  • $36,000 - $42,000/year for full-time, with Bonus Opportunities.
  • Competitive Insurance and Retirement Options offered.

Part time:  

  • Determined based on agreement, without benefits.

Employment Type:

Full-Time or Part-time.  Exempt.  Some Full-time or Part-time employment may be available for weekends and evenings. Please indicate in your letter of interest your willingness to work evenings and/or weekend shifts.

Working Environment:

This is not a traditional 7am - 3pm classroom teaching working environment. The role of an Online Content Teacher is to be the primary facilitator of the student’s learning. To successfully accomplish this, the teacher must closely monitor the student's progress in online and offline courses. The teacher will also be required to perform teaching and/or tutoring sessions for groups as well as individual students. These tutoring sessions may be online or face-to-face as needed.  The teacher will maintain regular office hours and schedule tutoring sessions as necessary. Some travel may be required.
